EPLF is a member of the IBU Sustainable building is a hot topic

13 July 2009

Since May 2009, the EPLF European Producers of Laminate Flooring has been a member of the IBU Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V., which is based in Königswinter (Germany). At consense, the international congress and trade fair for sustainable building, in Stuttgart, the membership certificate was handed over to the EPLF. The IBU is made up of manufacturers of construction materials and has been actively calling for more sustainability in the construction industry for many years. More than 40 international companies, service providers and associations from the construction industry are voluntary members of the IBU.

The collaboration between the EPLF and the IBU began as part of the writing of EPDs Environmental Product Declarations for laminate flooring, which are currently being published on the IBU website, at www.bau-umwelt.de. An EPD provides information on the ecological impact of construction materials and is therefore a key basic document for sustainable building for architects and planners. The EPLF, which has been actively involved in the issue of EPDs for laminate flooring since the beginning of 2008, is a pioneer of sustainable building in the floor coverings industry and would now like to document this externally through its membership in the IBU.

The laminate flooring industry is one of the first floor coverings industries to have EPDs for its products. However, they only apply to EPLF member companies, giving them a clear lead over their European competitors.
